Shrawan 2083 (Jul 2026)

Nagdhunga Tunnel opens

Nepal's first modern road tunnel on the Prithvi Highway enters operation, easing congestion on Kathmandu's western gateway.

FY 2083/84 (this year)

275 road bridges + 1,000 km blacktopping

Kamala–Kanchanpur and Narayangadh–Butwal East-West Highway sections completed. Fast Track: 40 bridges and 5.4 km of tunnel finished.

Within 3 years

Hulaki & Puspalal Highways complete

Hulaki (Postal) Highway's 8 bridges done. Puspalal Mid-Hill Highway: 65 km upgrade plus 5 bridges. All district headquarters connected by upgraded roads.

Within 5 years

East-West Highway full 4-lane completion

All 1,028 km upgraded to 4-lane standard. Smart urban mobility with full e-bus fleets in the Kathmandu and Pokhara valleys.

Ongoing

Kathmandu–Tarai Madhesh Fast Track

7 tunnels in progress and 87+ bridges planned. A direct Kathmandu–mid-Tarai link will cut transport costs and journey times significantly.

Smart urban mobility programme

Kathmandu Valley gets an integrated e-mobility system: electric public buses, fast-charging stations, real-time tracking, and smart bus parks. Pokhara Valley's existing fleet will be fully replaced by electric buses under a new i-mobility service.
